| What
is in the Museum ?
Visitors to the museum do
not see all we have. Our archive area takes up a great deal of space
where we keep items which must be preserved but are currently not on
display. These items may be divided roughly into two groups, solid
objects, some of them quite large, and the book, paper and picture
collection. Most of our solid objects are not specific to
Sittingbourne but are things used in our town in the past.

The Paper Archive
This is rather
different. Much of it is quite specific to Sittingbourne and is an
essential research tool for us and others exploring Sittingbourne's
history. To be of value this archive must be catalogued and made
accessible. Photographs and scanned images of documents lend
themselves to computer display and we are currently involved with the
setting up of such a facility within the museum. |
Electronic Archive
We do have a databases which catalogues our collection, but we also have a
"Maps and Charts" database, and an "Images" database. At present these are
not available for public searching, though we will search for you if you ask
! |

The museum's archives
are there to preserve our town's heritage, but also to be used as a
resource for academic research, for educational purposes, and perhaps
simply for pleasure. Contact the museum secretary to arrange for
access to these resources, or simply call in at the museum.
