Helen Allinson is
the museum's education secretary.
Bring
your class to visit and enhance your history curriculum. We have
much to offer Key Stage Two children. Our volunteers give a guided
tour of the museum, and this can bring your Local Study unit, or your
study of Children in the Second World War to life.
For
local study we have a range of objects on display which illustrate the
growth and development of the town, and for the Second World War we have a
1940s kitchen and an Anderson air raid shelter, complete with sound
effects, which the children can go inside.
Contact
our education secretary to arrange a visit. We make a small charge
per child.
We can
also help with your history lessons in school by lending you
"Treasure Chests". These are clear plastic boxes into
which we put a selection of objects for children to examine, handle, and
possibly use. These could be the basis of lessons on how things were
done in the past. This is a free service.
These experiences are tailored to cater
for varying age groups and
abilities and (very importantly) are FUN!
