Work at the museum itself entails care and cataloguing of our collection. We work according to nationally approved standards for museums, and have defined policies for accession and disposal of artefacts.

We have databases for our main collection, our maps and for images and photographs. We have around 5000 artefacts not including many documents of interest. We are also the custodians of an extensive library of East Kent Gazette editions, the former local paper for the area.

All our staff are volunteers, learning on the job, but with the support of Maidstone Museum and other professionals.

Outside of the museum itself, there is a great deal of work to be done in maintaining the museum’s presence in the town, in research and in administration.
